We would be more than happy to meet with you to evaluate your property and make money saving suggestions free of charge. We use top quality plants, flowers, shrubs and materials in our low maintenance landscape designs to save you money in the long run.
About the Owner:
Hello, my name is Thomas Schaffer. I am the owner and sole proprietor of Always Greener. Like the name, I prefer to try to keep things simple. I personally communicate directly with all my customers and personally cut the lawns myself. Sometimes I have experienced friends (good people that I know personally and trust) who I have worked with through the years help me when things get very busy and on larger landscaping projects.
I started the company in 1992 after getting laid off from a scientific instrument manufacturing company located in the strip district. Over the course of six years I held several positions in assembly, testing, machining, computer programing, quality control and supervisor. Being the perfectionist people tell me I am, I loved my work especially engineering, designing, perfecting and making new set up jigs & parts as well as being the company's first quality control inspector.
When I started landscaping it made me realize very quickly how much I really enjoyed lawn maintenance in Pittsburgh and missed working outdoors. While growing up our family had a summer camp in Evans City and my job from ages 10 to 18 was to cut the grass, trim, rake, re-seed and take care of the garden. I really enjoyed this type of work. I also cut grass and did small landscaping jobs for neighbors to make some spending money.
Through the course of the last 20 years with much dedication, planning and hard work, my business did grow and at times I had as many as five guys helping me. I new how difficult it was to find good reliable help each year in this seasonal business and sometimes became a little frustrated. But more importantly I brought myself to realize I was not willing to compromise when it came to work quality verses quantity and subsequently more money. I would rather earn less money doing excellent work than making more money with more work but doing a crappy job. I don't usually wear gloves and enjoy getting my hands dirty. Doing my best at an honest hard days work makes for a clear conscience and helps me sleep well at night. My experiences made me decide to keep the business small and simple, downsizing a little in the most recent years so I can continue to give each wonderful customer that GOD has blessed me with the personalized attention they deserve. I have found peace.
